Quick n’ Dirty Boat Building Contest

Madisonville, LA is home to the Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival on Oct 23 and 24. You guessed it, it’s a celebration of boats from a simpler time. Before fiberglass and triple digit top speeds on water. This is great and all, but I don’t think this is the interesting part. I’m interested in the Quick n’ Dirty Boat Building Contest. This contest pits teams of costumed amateur boat builders against each other in improvised boats. They have 14 hours to build their boats from the materials given to them. After the boat is completed, they are pitted against each other to row 100 yards to a buoy and sail 100 yards back. Sounds like a blast!
